The LYCRA Company, a leader in developing innovative and sustainable fibres and technology solutions for the personal care and apparel industries, launched its newest fibre innovation for hygiene and personal care at day one of INDEX™23.

LYCRA EnviroFit™ fibre is one of the many sustainable fibres the company has developed as part of its Planet Agenda sustainability platform.

The LYCRA Company aims to reach a carbon neutral state by 2040, as well as making incremental changes such as reducing energy consumption at its sites, introducing new innovations and future plans to use bio-derived feedstocks.

It said the product’s “unique chemistry” enables it to use thinner yarns, which reduces the amount of fibre per article hence reducing resource without compromising product performances.

Scott Blackadar, president, personal care at The LYCRA Company, said: “We are thrilled to introduce LYCRA EnviroFit fibre, which reduces fibre weight while maintaining the overall quality and performance that personal care products require.

“Having less mass means fewer resources and less energy are consumed during diaper production. This fibre will appeal to manufacturers who want to significantly reduce their product’s environmental impact and help improve its carbon footprint.”

In addition to improving its range of fibres for personal care products, The Lycra Company also focuses on providing total solutions for the challenges its customers face. It is offering two unique delivery technologies aimed at improving the spandex unwinding process and improving diaper line productivity that will also be promoted at the show.

Blackadar said: “The EnviroFit fibre is one of the key innovations and part of our sustainability program. As a company, we’re trying to be much more efficient, to decrease our carbon footprint, and we’re doing that with the products that we’re selling.

“On our manufacturing side, we’re lowering energy levels, we’re using more alternative fuel sources. The [new fibre] is a way that our customers can use fewer petrochemical-based products because they’re only using 85% of the Spandex that they were getting from us. Whereas they were using, maybe 100kg – now they can use around 85kg.”

The product is said to be different to anything else on the market because it has the highest retractor force, the most force per denier, which means a thinner yarn can be used to get the same power.

The LYCRA Company said the fibre helps customers to meet their own sustainable needs by simply having to buy less, meaning less shipping, storing less – reducing the overall footprint by around 15%.

Introducing Trio Loop Yarn Control

The LYCRA Company has started showcasing the Trio Loop Technology, the latest yarn control system from Italian-based BTSR International.

Working in combination with India-based MATRIXCUBE’s tension-controlled plug-and-play unwinding systems, the technology improves yarn tension control and adds more troubleshooting options to further improve diaper line productivity.

New distribution

The LYCRA Company is also the exclusive global distributor of the new and improved Knotter Type 093E for diaper production. This breakthrough innovation by Italian-based Mesdan offers manufacturers greater efficiency and reliability by eliminating manual knot tying and reducing machine stops.

Werner Hopstaken, global director, personal care at The LYCRA Company, said: “By offering these delivery technologies, we are demonstrating that we are a trusted and highly valued solution provider in the industry.

“We are excited to offer our personal care customers these innovative products by BTSR and Mesdan and encourage them to contact us to learn more.”
