Pakistan-based manufacturer of hosiery, denim, knitted apparel and activewear, Interloop has achieved “top performance” on the Higg Index: a global standard for evaluating environmental impact and sustainability practices across production facilities, which was developed by Cascale (formerly the Sustainable Apparel Coalition).  

The Higg Index provides a suite of tools for the apparel and footwear industry to assess sustainability throughout a product’s entire life cycle, from materials to end-of-life. As of 2023, the Higg Index suite of tools included the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM), Higg Facility Social & Labour Module (FSLM), Higg Brand & Retail Module (BRM), Higg Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), and Higg Product Module (PM). The metrics created by the Higg Index are limited to a company’s internal use for the evaluation and improvement of environmental performance.  

 Muhammed Fauz Ul Azeem, head of sustainability at Interloop said Interloop has been using Higg Index since 2017 as it began to “go at par” with international standards. 

Azeem added that Interloop has also committed to the global Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative: a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature.
