Digital textile printing, like many other sectors within the textile and apparel industry, has not gone unaffected by the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (GenAI) technologies.

Poised as enormously beneficial to multiple segments of the fashion value chain – overarchingly boasting potential to affect the entire fashion ecosystem, so says McKinsey & Company – AI will just as heavily influence the digital textile printing market, bolstering mass customisation and hyper-personalisation, increasing the efficacy of quality control and colour matching, and enhancing digital print design creativity.

News has already abounded regarding the acceleration of the design process for digital textile printers.       HPRT, a China-based supplier specialised in designing and manufacturing a wide range of printers, said in a company note that AI technology has “sparked a revolution in the fields of art and design, offering unprecedented opportunities and profound impacts on the digital textile printing industry” including for the creation of apparel, accessories and interior home products.

While such developments could reduce the length of time designers spend on drawing, either by hand or using computer-aided design (CAD), they can also improve mass customisation efforts: a greater personalisation of products can place the design of garments in the hands of
