Seoul, South Korea – 30 April, 2025 – Dongsung Chemical (CEO Baek Jin-woo and Lee Man-woo), an eco-friendly material science company, announced that it has built a new polyurethane (PU) plant in Karawang, Indonesia, and held a completion ceremony on the 30th.

The completion ceremony was attended by more than 200 key officials, including Dongsung Chemical Chairman Baek Jung-ho, Dongsung Chemical CEO Baek Jin-woo and Lee Man-woo, Indonesian Minister of Investment Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Acting Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia Park Su-duk, Vice Chairman of the Korea Entrepreneurs Association Kim Chang-beom, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Yang Jae-jae, and employees of partner companies.

Dongsung Chemical started construction of its Indonesian plant in September 2023, completed trial production in January this year, and started mass production in February.

Dongsung Chemical's Indonesian plant covers an area of 81,000 square meters and can produce about 67,000 tons of prepolymers, polyester synthesizers, and polyurethane resins per year, with a sales potential of about KRW 200 billion. This is three times the production capacity of Dongsung Chemical's existing polyurethane plants in Korea, Vietnam, and China.

In addition, it is equipped with facilities that can store up to 1,000 tons of key polyurethane raw materials, so it can maintain a stable production system even in the face of global supply chain disruptions caused by the imbalance in raw material supply and demand. The automation system also maximized production efficiency.

Dongsung Chemical plans to further strengthen its global competitiveness by using the Indonesian plant as a key base for expansion into the Americas and European markets as well as Southeast Asia. The strategy is to enter the existing footwear, synthetic leather, automobile, and electrical/electronic materials markets, as well as the furniture market to promote continuous growth.

Dongsung Chemical CEO Lee Man-woo said in his presentation on the business progress, "We plan to quickly provide high-quality products to our customers by taking advantage of Indonesia's logistics strengths adjacent to the port and its geographical advantage as the center of the automobile industry."

Dongsung Chemical Chairman Baek Jung-ho said in his welcome speech, "The new plant will serve as a strategic global hub that encompasses not only ASEAN, but also the Americas and Europe as the best polyurethane system production base in Southeast Asia."

Meanwhile, Rosan Perkasa Roslani, Minister of Investment of Indonesia, said in his congratulatory speech, "The new Dongsung Chemical plant will have a positive impact on the Indonesian economy and the development of relations between Korea and Indonesia," and added, "I would like to express my gratitude to Dongsung Chemical Chairman Baek Jung-ho for making the important decision to complete the construction of a new production base in Karawang."
