President of the BTMA Showkat Aziz Russell cautioned how this could affect the country’s textile sector at a press conference held in Dhaka on Tuesday (18 February). Russell emphasised this price hike would severely impact the industry’s sustainability, deterring local and foreign investment. 

Russell told the conference: “If the gas price is doubled, Bangladesh’s textile sector will never become sustainable. There will be no new investments, and banks will not finance any new projects. One factory after another will be forced to shut down.”
