Overview
Founded 2013, Twinery operates as the innovation branch of MAS Holdings – the largest textile & apparel manufacturer in South Asia.

Centred on R&D, Twinery boasts over 100 granted patents addressing a breadth of textile & apparel functions and processes. Ranil Vitarana, chief innovation officer at MAS Holdings, defines these focuses across five distinct categories:

• Fabric formation – including knitting and injection moulding,
• Shape modification – such as cutting or moulding fabrics.
• Surface functionalisation – processes which alter a fabric’s characteristics.
• Colouration – such as printing.
• Assembly – putting together a finished item.

Within these areas, the hub has established numerous innovation hotspots in printing, coatings and knitting, as well as explorations in next-generation technologies such as smart textiles and the Internet of Things (IoT).

In terms of applicable target markets, Twinery’s refined innovations are typically relevant to intimate apparel and other fashion-led textiles & apparel, at-home medical devices, femtech (solutions for female health), gaming and sportswear.

Its partners and collaborators include brands such as Spanx, Nike, Lululemon and Victoria’s Secret, while also supporting academic institutes and ingredient providers such as Loughborough University (UK) and recycler, Ambercycle.
