T-Rex completes blueprint for textile recycling
-Press release provided by T-Rex Project
Brussels, Belgium – 28 May, 2025 – T-REX Project marks the successful completion of its three-year innovation programme, unveiling a comprehensive Blueprint for Scaling Textile-to-Textile Recycling across Europe.
Launched in June 2022, the T-REX Project brought together 13 leading stakeholders from across the textile value chain with the shared goal of developing a harmonised system for closed-loop recycling of post-consumer household textile waste. With over 6.95 million tonnes of textile waste generated annually in the EU—most of it still landfilled or incinerated—the need for scalable circular solutions is urgent.
The newly released blueprint outlines practical insights and recommendations for each phase of the textile recycling chain, all of which has been informed by a series of in-depth reports conducted by the consortium, including:
- Summary Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
- Technical Guidelines for Recyclable Garments
- Data Model for Textile-to-Textile Recycling
- Citizen Engagement White Paper
- Techno-Economic Assessment (to be published in June)
We are also proud to showcase demonstrator products which have been created through the successful implementation of the entire recycling process for polyester, polyamide 6, and cellulosic materials within Europe.
The T-REX Blueprint offers a clear path forward for scaling textile recycling and building a truly circular textile economy in Europe.
