Overview
From humble beginnings in a flat above a surf shop, Finisterre has spent the last two decades striving for a more informed and sustainable approach to fashion.

Founded by Tom Kay in Cornwall, UK, the brand was created with the mission to create functional and sustainable clothing for cold water surfers and outdoorspeople [1]. Named after one of the most rugged headlands in the North Atlantic, Finisterre translates to ‘end of the earth’, deepening the connection of the ethos to the water.

Looking to a fill a gap in surf and outdoor apparel fit for the UK’s climate, its 2003 debut was a waterproof, windproof fleece [2]. It has since expanded its offering to cover an array of core and specialist categories, including jackets, trousers, shirts, wetsuits and swimwear.

As well as catering to those with an affinity for the sea, Finisterre believes in products that are built to last, and as such, has developed fabrics and manufacturing techniques to achieve this. Its success here was highlighted in 2018 when it was awarded B Corp certification, the first outdoor apparel brand in Europe to do so [3]. This award, evidencing a company’s high standards for social and environmental impact, has been maintained by Finisterre, gaining recertification in 2025.
