Copenhagen, Denmark – 6 October, 2025 - Global Fashion Agenda (GFA), the non-profit organisation accelerating the transition to a net-positive fashion industry and the convenor of the landmark Global Fashion Summit, welcomes eBay, a global commerce leader for pre-loved fashion, as a new Strategic Partner. Together, GFA and eBay will collaborate with industry peers to accelerate the shift to a circular fashion system, combining eBay’s global reach and data-driven insights with GFA’s influential platforms and programmes.

The fashion industry’s current linear model leads to overproduction, underuse of garments and excessive waste. By advancing to a circular economy, where products are reused, resold and recycled, eBay and GFA aim to show how growth can be decoupled from resource consumption and deliver scalable solutions across the industry. These efforts will complement the ongoing work of GFA and its longstanding ecosystem of partners.

Momentum is clear across eBay’s marketplace, where nearly 40% of clothing, shoes and accessories sold in 2024 were pre-loved. As a Strategic Partner, eBay will apply these insights across GFA impact programmes – sharing marketplace data to inform policy discussions, contributing resale and logistics expertise, and connecting brands with recommerce tools, such as Authentication and Digital Product Passports. eBay will also support the Global Fashion Summit and GFA’s educational resources, contributing with insights into how resale is reshaping fashion culture and consumer shopping habits.

By contributing its scale, data and three decades of resale leadership, eBay joins GFA’s network alongside companies spanning luxury, sportswear and retail, uniting different parts of the value chain behind measurable progress on circularity, decarbonisation, social equity and climate adaptation.

“Joining the Global Fashion Agenda demonstrates eBay’s commitment to driving a more circular fashion economy,” said Alexis Hoopes, VP, Global Fashion at eBay. “Working alongside other leaders in fashion, we aim to make pre-loved the easy choice for shoppers, while creating lasting impact for both people and the planet.”

“eBay’s commitment to prolonging the life of products makes them an excellent addition to our esteemed group of Strategic Partners,” said Federica Marchionni, CEO, GFA. “Circular business models, including rental, resale, repair and remaking, are gaining momentum as brands and consumers increasingly recognise their potential and we look forward to collaborating with eBay to continue mobilising impact as we accelerate towards a net positive fashion industry.”

The Partnership is effective immediately. Learn more about GFA.

*Facts on Circularity

  • Textile production has almost doubled over the past 20 years, straining dwindling virgin resources.
  • In the United Kingdom alone, 23 million garments end up in landfills or incinerated each year, contributing 750,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.
  • Today, the second-hand apparel market is rapidly expanding and is projected to reach USD 350 billion by 2028, outpacing the overall global apparel market threefold.
  • Resale grew 15 times faster than the broader retail clothing sector in 2023, with online resale up 23% and expected to account for half of all spending on second-hand apparel by 2025.
  • Poised to more than double in size in the next five years, the sector is expected to reach USD 40 billion by 2028.
