Digital textile printing doubles market share

Digital textile printing is no longer confined to sampling and niche applications. New market data from WTiN shows the technology is steadily capturing a larger share of global printed textile production.

WTiN’s latest market data highlights a trend that has been gathering pace for more than a decade: roll-to-roll digital textile printing is steadily increasing its share of global textile print production, even as the wider market experiences periods of volatility.

Back in 2018, the roll-to-roll digital textile printing market accounted for only 6% of global textile printing output, despite productivity increasing by 25% from 2017, suggesting that the analogue screenprinting market has not yet plateaued.

However, last year the roll-to-roll digital textile printing sector’s market share reached 12.6%, its highest ever portion, meaning digital production has more than doubled its market share in seven years. During the same period, digital textile output increased from approximately 2.6 billion sqm to 5.3 billion sqm, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.7%.

While digital production has continued to expand, conventional output has gradually contracted, declining at a CAGR of 2.3% between 2018 and 2025. As a result, digital is not simply benefiting from overall market growth; it is increasingly taking production volume away from analogue processes.
