Italian manufacturer Macchine Carù is exhibiting its complete range of finishing machines at Innovate Textile & Apparel, including those featuring laser technologies.

Over the 50 years that it has been in operation, Carù has adopted its own competitive philosophy orientated towards ‘market niches’ – focusing not only on the quantities of units produced but also on forging strong customer relationships.

“This belongs to our history and knowledge in for example, corduroy machinery; that is the field where Carù started in the early 1960s, first offering a maintenance service to some corduroy factories in the nearby area and then starting to produce our own corduroy cutting machine followed by our first corduroy brushing machine and then every type of corduroy machine,” says managing director Andrea Carù.

“Nowadays, the corduroy market is a small one; that is why we think it is niche.”

A family-run business, Carù has achieved ‘a lot of knowledge’ over the decades, says the company, that has led to the development of new machines which, in turn, have improved its credibility and presence in the global textile market ‘day by day’.

“All the knowledge is in our hands; for this reason, we also specialise in customised machines – another market niche,” says Andrea Carù.

The company is discussing its innovative heritage and specialist expertise at Innovate Textile & Apparel, where it is exhibiting as part of the Italian Pavilion organised by the Italian Trade Agency and ACIMIT.

It is showcasing its entire range of textile finishing machines ranging from sueding, raising, shearing, corduroy cutting and brushing, fabric dust cleaning, and all operations where mechanical action is required, according to Carù.

Besides these products, the company presents its latest range of machines involving laser technologies. “We already have in our production a laser engraving machine to engrave rubber rollers to be used in our pattern sueding machine,” Carù reveals. “With the same machine, after some modification in software and hardware, we plan on introducing to the market a new laser engraving machine for rotary printing screens.”

Explaining why the company decided to participate in the virtual trade show, Carù says ‘the answer is simple’.

“Unfortunately, this year all exhibitions have been cancelled and postponed to next year, and the risk of new future lockdowns is always around the corner. In 2020 we were going to participate at several exhibitions worldwide, with the goal of spreading our name and acquiring new customers,” says Carù.

“We believe that every trade fair event is very important and strategic in maintaining the position of one of the main suppliers on the market. From now, virtual exhibitions will be an advantage as every company can show their products not only in one country but worldwide.”

Such platforms will therefore prove crucial for business continuity amid the global pandemic. Discussing the challenges that it has faced during this time – especially during the early stages of the outbreak – Carù pinpoints two: the absence of direct contact with its customers and the inability to send its engineers and technicians out to its foreign customers. However, as a solution, the company is developing a tele service assistance for all of its machines.

Looking ahead, the company plans to develop new machines that, according to the company, are now at the design stage. “This will enable us to increase our experience and care of our new and old customers,” Carù says.

And, responding to what makes Carù and its fellow Italian textile manufacturers so innovative, the managing director concludes: “I think it is due to our capacity to find new technologies and new applications in each sector as well as the enterprising spirit of Italian family companies.”
