WAIR, a US-based technology company, has launched Order Insights, an AI-powered update to its Fit Advisor platform, which conjoins the 3D body dimensions of online shoppers with their favourite trends, styles and tastes for the benefit of e-commerce brands and their customers.

The solution tracks body dimensions, individual shopping journeys, purchasing behaviour, product reviews and returns information, to give e-commerce apparel companies a clear and concise understanding of the different body types interacting with their brand, along with their shopping preferences. For online customers, the platform can assist them in finding better fitting clothes.

3D technology and consumer behaviour tracking are becoming a growing part of the e-commerce experience, with more and more brands using solutions to accurately launch and track products based on the taste, measurements and preferences of their customer base.

In the apparel market, fashion collections are now being launched based on the actual sizing of the customers who would be wearing them. Not only does this increase customer satisfaction and boost profitability for the companies but it is more sustainable, as accurate sizing lessens the need for reverse logistics, cutting down carbon emissions in the supply chain.

“Our customers are constantly analysing purchase, review and returns data to squeeze the most profit out of their shopping experience,” says WAIR CEO, Gregg Moore. “But until now, they never knew the body dimensions of the shopper.”

WAIR’s platform works by asking customers questions on their physical make up, before predicting shoppers’ body dimensions and recommending the best-fitting products. WAIR’s database contains over 2,000,000 3D body scans from across the globe, which it uses to create a virtual avatar for each shopper. These avatars, along with data of the customer’s shopping journey, are fed back to the retailer to form an accurate forecast.

“For example, if 48% of shoppers leave a review stating the sizing is too small and 52% of shoppers leave a review stating that sizing is too big, what does the brand do?” adds Moore. “Until they know the shoppers’ bodies, they can’t make valuable quantitative decisions.”

WAIR’s recent product upgrade is a sign of the times in the apparel market, with many companies using 3D data and AI to get the upper hand in the market. 3D technology has been instrumental in combating the fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic on the apparel industry.

The pandemic has halted traditional brick and mortar retail, with social distancing, loss of demand and logistical barriers preventing the launch of many fashion collections. 3D product sampling and 3D virtual clothing solutions have provided ample stopgaps throughout the pandemic and many professionals expect them to continue to grow for years to come.
