At Innovate Textile & Apparel, Italian Color Solutions is exhibiting ADDA-X, a new imaging device developed for online defect detection of tubular raw fabrics and open-width webs.

Italian Color Solutions (I.C.S) is located in the famous textile district of Prato, Italy. According to the manufacturer, its mission is to ‘continue the heritage’ of the company Orintex from the beginning of the 1980s when the concept of digitalising the industrial process of colour quality control represented an ‘innovative first-seen approach’.

“This concept, based on the first management software in the market for the dyeing and finishing mills, contributed to modernising the ancient handmade work of the textile manufacturers,” says the company.

To this day, I.C.S continues to develop new technological solutions specifically developed for the sample dyeing laboratory. Here the study of colour is considered ‘essential’ to ensure a smooth passage to the production floor where a ‘right-first-time’ approach is mandatory to achieving success and winning the worldwide challenge of Made in Italy manufacturing, according to the company.

Online defect detection

With this in mind, I.C.S recently developed ADDA-X, a new imaging instrument based on a modern digital CCD camera that can online detect, recognise and classify spatial defects of tubular fabrics and open-width textile surfaces while quickly moving within the field-of-view of the optical imager. This new optical system is said to represent a ‘quick and accurate’ instrument that offers a ‘quantitative and repeatable’ approach aimed at preparing the fabric before entering the dyeing chain.

The company spent more than three years setting up such an optical digital device in order to meet the specific requirements of raw fabric and yarn producers, circular sewing machine manufacturers, and dyeing and finishing mills.

“ADDA-X is the digital evolution of the ancient inspection tables where the visual assessment of expert operators was still the unique way to control the defects affecting the quality of raw fabrics,” states the company.

“Thanks to innovative image processing algorithms based on a statistical approach, ADDA-X represents a breakthrough innovation in inspection technology for tubular as well as open-width raw fabric,” the company continues. “It can detect a wide range of defects such as holes, stains and warp/weft faults at high speeds (up to two m/s) by exploring tubular fabric with a maximum height of 160 cm.”

Virtual exhibit

The ADDA-X can be explored further at Innovate Textile & Apparel where I.C.S is exhibiting as part of the Italian Pavilion organised by the Italian Trade Agency and ACIMIT.

Being part of an established community such as the Italian textile machinery sector is something that I.C.S credits for its success and longevity. Highlighting some of the coveted values of Italian manufacturers, Paolo Marcoionni, CEO of Italian Color Solutions, says: “High quality in the selection of raw material and elegant design affecting the general aesthetic look and efficiency of the offered service due to deep knowledge and long-time experience.”

Discussing the company’s reasons for participating in Innovate Textile & Apparel, Marcoionni says: “We decided to attend this virtual trade show to enhance the opportunity to remain visible within the circuit of industrial applications of colorimetry. It is for us the first time we have participated in a virtual exhibition and we are confident that the virtual show will become an ordinary event considering the current pandemic situation.”

He continues: “We expect to attract interest from Asiatic stakeholders and decision makers that are seeking specific and innovative solutions for their dyeing and finishing mills.”

And, of course, amid the current travel restrictions, Marcoionni believes that a virtual event can “keep us present and visible in these specific markets”, adding that “all these trade initiatives are therefore welcome and suitable to keep our prospective alive”.

Going forward, I.C.S hopes to maintain this visibility ‘to not disappear from the market’.

“Therefore, the presentation of new technological developments for the textile dyeing and finishing process remains a core strategy for us together with the chance to widen our commercial proposal,” Marcoionni concludes.
