Novotechnik, a US-based sensor manufacturer, has introduced the TFD Series of touchless linear position sensors that provide wear-free operation in tight spaces, according to the company.
The TFD-4000 Series utilises a magnetic position marker to provide a stroke length of 0-14, 24 or 50mm, depending on the model. These sensors make touchless measurements through air and non-magnetic materials. Magnetic position marker mounts to the user’s application, says the company.
The sensors’ maximum dimensions are 40 x 27 x 7mm. Other key TFD-4000 Series specifications include ingress protection from liquids and dust to IP 69, resolution of 12 bits, repeatability of ≤0.1% of full scale and optional second channel for applications requiring redundancy, the company adds.
The sensors also have analogue voltage output and have an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
Applications include textile machinery, packaging machinery, sheet metal machinery, medical applications, marine, mobile engine management systems, industrial trucks, construction machinery, agricultural and forestry machinery, Novotechnik continues.
Sensors are vital to the smart factory and intelligent manufacturing and are critical in enabling the use of cyber-physical systems within an industrial manufacturing facility. As Industry 4.0 continues to accelerate in the textile industry, more sensors like the TFD-4000 Series will be launched from a variety of OEMs.
