Polyester

Polyester filament yarn prices were generally stable on better performance of raw material sectors late in the week. Downstream mills increased procurement due to higher feedstock prices, so trading atmosphere was boosted. In China, producer reduced prices for POY but lifted them in case of DTYs and FDYs. Meanwhile, selling indications also moved in line with offers. In Zhejiang, given the firmness in crude oil, local PFY offers were generally stable while trading atmosphere was brisk, seeing more buying activities of downstream mills. In India, POY buying sentiment was insipid and offers stayed unchanged, but trading atmosphere was dim. Downstream mills just covered shorts, with low run rates. In Pakistan, selling indications for DTYs were heard stable and levels were at par for both local and imported goods.

In China, POY offers declined US cents 3 in Shengze with 75/72 at US$1.27-1.28 a kg and 75/36 to US$1.25-1.27 a kg. In India, POY offers were flat in INR and US$ term, with 115/108 at INR100 a kg or US$1.43 a kg and 130/34 POY at INR92 a kg or US$1.32 a kg. In China, 75/72 intermingled DTY prices were steady at US$1.78-1.79 a kg and 75/36 at US$1.76-1.78 a kg in Shengze. In Pakistan, selling indications were stable for local and imported goods with 300/96 DTY intermingled at PakRs116 a kg (US$1.83 a kg). In China, FDY offers were lifted US cents 6-9 with 50/24 at US$1.44-1.46 a kg and 150/96 FDY to US$1.37-1.39 a kg.

nylon

Nylon filament yarn prices moderated in Asian market following the dip in polyamide chip cost and recent fall in caprolactam values. Downstream textile producers operated at low run rates and purchasing volume of FDY, DTY and POY were based on rigid demand. Warp knitting mills and covering mills operated at 55% run rates, while circular knitting and lacing mills ran at 35%. Demand for cord fabric and monofilament was passable, while that for fishing net yarn and staple fibre was modest. Nylon‐6 FDY prices softened a bit to reflect weak chip market and low downstream demand while Nylon‐6 DTY prices edged down on lower feedstock cost amid tepid downstream demand. In India, prices of nylon filament yarn were stable in Surat market. Going ahead, filament producers in China are likely to trim production as demand is expected to wither, keeping market fundamental balanced. Thus, nylon filament prices in general may continue to edge down.

In China, offers for nylon FDY70D/24F SD fell to 18.00-18.50 Yuan a kg (US$2.62-2.70, down US cents 7), while DTY70D offers fell to 19.50-21.00 Yuan a kg (US$2.84-3.06 a kg, down US cents 7). Cord fabric 1,260D offers plunged to 22.50-24.00 Yuan a kg (US$3.28-3.50 a kg, down US cents 7) while mono filament 30D prices fell to 20.00-21.50 Yuan a kg (US$2.92-3.13 a kg, down US cents 7). In India, 20 SD filament prices were steady on the week at INR296 a kg (US$4.24 a kg, up US cent 1 due to strong currency) in Surat market.

Viscose

Viscose filament yarn prices changed marginally this week as downstream mills gradually left for holidays after entering into January. Thus, overall buying interest was weak. In turn, the market atmosphere was relatively quiet. Price-wise, offers for first-class, second-class and third-class VFY 120D were seen rolling over at the moment. In India, viscose filament yarn prices remained unchanged after they were revised down in December. Going ahead, given the upcoming lunar year end, demand from terminal market appears weak, resulting in slower liquidity. Thus, viscose filament prices are expected to remain range bound on a weak note in coming weeks.

In China, offers for viscose filament 120D bright rolled over at 38.80 Yuan a kg (US$5.66 a kg), and dull at 38.45 Yuan a kg (US$5.61 a kg). 300D bright prices rolled over at 29.20 Yuan a kg (US$4.26 a kg) and dull at 25.70 Yuan a kg (US$3.75 a kg). In India, VFY prices rolled over in INR and US$ terms, with 100D bright VFY at INR388 a kg (US$5.55 a kg) and 450D at INR 225 a kg (US$3.22 a kg).
