Polyester

Polyester filament yarn prices were seen rising in China after two weeks of weakness, while the Karachi market in Pakistan saw downwards correction in both locally produced goods and imported material. Prices were stable in India, but weak currency pushed prices down in US$ terms. In China, local offers mainly moved sideways, with sporadic price hikes, following good gain in crude oil but weak PTA futures. Downstream mills were less active to purchase, after replenishing certain materials. In Shengze, downstream mills were mainly digesting their stocks while selling indications for POYs, FDYs and DTYs were lifted slightly. Sales were sound, but cooled somewhat later in the week. In Pakistan, DTY market sentiment was stable amid price reduction for a few specs. Overall, given rising crude oil prices, firm offers and passable trading atmosphere, downstream mills will follow up. However, the fabric sector has entered the dull season, so inventory will tend to rise.

In China, POY offers rose US cents 3 in Shengze with 75/72 at US$1.30-1.31 a kg and 75/36 to US$1.28-1.30 a kg. In India, POY offers were stable in INR and down US cent 1 in US$ terms, with 115/108 at INR100 a kg or US$1.42 a kg and 130/34 POY at INR92 a kg or US$1.31 a kg. In China, 75/72 intermingled DTY prices were up US cents 3 at US$1.81-1.83 a kg and 75/36 at US$1.80-1.81 a kg in Shengze. In Pakistan, selling indications were sobered PakRe 1 both for local and imported goods with 300/96 DTY at PakRs111 a pound (US$1.75 a kg) while 150/48 DTY intermingled was cheaper by PakRs4 at PakRs117-118 a pound (US$1.84-1.86 a kg, down US cents 6). In China, FDY offers were lifted US cents 3 with 50/24 at US$1.47-1.49 a kg and 150/96 FDY to US$1.40-1.41 a kg.

Nylon

Nylon filament yarn markets were generally quiet this week, seeing caprolactam and chip cost firming in China and plunging in other markets. Given the thin margin, some yarn suppliers raised low‐end offers but could not offload volume since downstream textile producers operated at low run rates. Purchasing volume of FDY, DTY and POY was based on rigid demand. Demand is expected to remain muted until the Lunar New Year break, and feedstock bottoming out. Demand for cord fabric and monofilament was passable, while that for fishing net yarn and staple fiber was modest. Nylon‐6 FDY prices inched up on chip costs amid thin profits. Liquidity of full‐dull FDY was thin. Nylon‐6 DTY prices were stable to reflect chip cost movements while downstream demand was lukewarm.

In China, offers for nylon FDY70D/24F SD rose at the upper end to 18.00-18.60 Yuan a kg (US$2.65-2.74, up US cents 3), while DTY70D offers were flat at 19.50-21.00 Yuan a kg (US$2.87-3.09 a kg). Cord fabric 1,260D offers rolled over at 22.50-24 Yuan a kg (US$3.31-3.53 a kg) and mono filament 30D prices at 20-21.50 Yuan a kg (US$2.95-3.17 a kg). All the above quotes were US cents 3 higher due to stronger Yuan. In India, 20 SD filament prices were steady on the week at INR296 a kg (US$4.20 a kg, down US cents 4 due to weak currency) in Surat market.

Viscose

Viscose filament yarn market sentiment was similar to that of viscose fibre, with downstream converters mostly beginning to replenish materials for the upcoming Spring Festival. Thus, overall transaction volume was healthy, seeing the converters purchase a lot. Price-wise, offers for first-class, second-class and third-class 120D viscose filament were seen rolling over on the week. Overall, with heavy replenishment this week, prices may remain stable in coming week, as downstream converters will wrap up their business gradually. In India, viscose filament yarn prices did not change this week amid stagnated demand.

In China, offers for viscose filament 120D bright rolled over at 38.80 Yuan a kg (US$5.71 a kg), and dull at 38.45 Yuan a kg (US$5.66 a kg), both up US cents 6 due to strong Yuan. 300D bright prices rolled over at 29.20 Yuan a kg (US$4.30 a kg) and dull at 25.70 Yuan a kg (US$3.78 a kg), both up US cents 4. In India, VFY prices rolled over in INR but fell US cents 3-5 in US$ terms due to weak currency, with 100D bright VFY at INR388 a kg (US$5.51 a kg) and 450D at INR 225 a kg (US$3.19 a kg).
