VSF markets stepped into an upward mode this week in China, with producers hiking prices early in the week. Mainstream offers for medium-end goods were raised with firm deals following up. The weekend saw offers jump again, stimulated by factors such as rising PSF prices, production cutbacks, higher cost and existing losses. Some spinners may bring forward their replenishment plans, which were originally scheduled in early September. Offers for medium-end goods were up at 14.40-14.60 yuan a kg (US$2.10-2.12 a kg, up US cents 2), and high-end goods up at 14.70 yuan a kg (2.14 a kg, up US cents 4).
Seeing VSF markets in China into a new round of uptrends, viscose fibre markets in India and Pakistan saw prices rolling over this week. In Pakistan, offers for 1.5D VSF were flat at PakRs275-278 a kg (US$2.25-2.27 a kg, up US cent 1 due to strong currency) in Karachi. In India, VSF prices rolled over at INR144-151 kg (US$2.05-2.15 a kg).
Viscose spun yarn prices climbed on firmer costs in China and rolled over in India and Pakistan. Prices were supported by a new round of uptrend in viscose fibre markets, amid low stocks at downstream mills. Some mills may start buying fibres next week, expecting a further rise in VSF cost, as against originally scheduled replenishment in early September.
In China, offers in Jiangsu for 30s ring‐spun viscose yarn were up at 19 yuan a kg (US$2.77 a kg) and 40s yarn up at 20.10 yuan a kg (US$2.93 a kg), both up US cents 2. 10s yarn prices were stable at 17.10 yuan a kg (US$2.49 a kg). In India, 30s viscose spun knitting yarn prices rolled over in Ludhiana at INR183 a kg (US$2.61 a kg). In Pakistan, viscose yarn prices remained unchanged with 35s at PakRs146 per pound (US$2.63 a kg) and 40s at PakRs160 per pound (US$2.88 a kg), both up US cents 2 due to strong currency.
Viscose filament yarn prices were largely stable this week in China and India, lacking any boosting factors. Downstream mills were somewhat lagged at the moment, but activities may be boosted later, as some producers in China intend to raise the prices due to firmness in dissolving pulp market sentiment coupled with rising viscose fibre prices.
In China, VFY offers for 120D bright VFY rolled over at 39 yuan a kg (US$5.68 a kg), and 300D bright were offered at 29.50 yuan a kg (US$4.29 a kg) and dull at 26 yuan a kg (US$3.78 a kg). Strong yuan pushed quotes up US cents 1-2 in US$ terms.
