Viscose staple fibre markets in China maintained the upward movement, but the strength weakened slowly. Mainstream offers for high-end goods were steady while trading prices inched up. Some high-end producers controlled offtake volumes amid favourable sales. Offers and trading prices for medium-end goods were also steady to firm. Generally, deals were hard to conclude at high levels for medium-end goods while high-end goods attracted more interest. Players were upbeat overall as downstream yarn prices ascended on a higher cost.
Offers for medium-end viscose goods climbed to 15.00-15.50 yuan a kg (US$2.20-2.27 a kg), with trading prices stood at 15.00-15.30 yuan a kg (US$2.20-2.24 a kg). Offers for high-end goods were firm at 15.50 yuan a kg (2.27 a kg) and the trading price was 15.20-15.30 yuan a kg (US$2.23-2.24 a kg). In spot, 1.5D VSF offers jumped to 15.08 yuan a kg (US$2.21 a kg) and 1.2D to 15.22 yuan a kg (US$2.23 a kg), both up US cents 4.
In India and Pakistan, viscose fibre prices generally rolled over as the markets remained dull amid weakening currencies. In India, 1.2-2.0D VSF prices rolled over at INR144-151 kg (US$2.00-2.10 a kg, down US cents 3 due to the weak currency). In Pakistan, offers for 1.5D VSF rolled over at PakRs275-278 a kg (US$2.23-2.26 a kg) in Karachi.
Viscose ring-spun and compact and siro yarn offers were hiked in China as upstream fibre markets continued to trend up. Yarn makers mostly liquidated volumes at prevailing market prices. Since there remained some unfulfilled orders and cash flow margins were weak, yarn producers generally tended to raise the prices. However, firm deals turned to be modest at fresh price levels. Offers in Jiangsu for 30s ring‐spun viscose yarn rose to 19.90 yuan a kg (US$2.92 a kg, up US cents 5) while 40s yarn jumped to 20.90 yuan a kg (US$3.06 a kg) and 20s yarn raised sharply to 18.80 yuan a kg (US$2.76 a kg), both up US cents 3.
In India, viscose yarn prices generally rolled over while the INR hit a new low against the US$ 30s viscose spun knitting yarn prices which were steady in Ludhiana at INR183 a kg (US$2.55 a kg, down US cents 4 due to weak INR).
In Pakistan, both viscose yarn and fibre prices remained flat on the week with 35s at PakRs146 per pound (US$2.61 a kg) and 40s at PakRs160 per pound (US$2.86 a kg).
Viscose filament yarn prices were largely stable this week in China, with good liquidity for high-end goods. Price-wise, offers for first-class, second-class and third-class VFY 120D were rolled over in China. Offers for 120D bright VFY were stable at 39.20 yuan a kg (US$5.74 a kg), and dull at 39.85 yuan a kg (US$5.84 a kg). 300D bright were offered flat at 29.70 yuan a kg (US$4.35 a kg) and dull at 26.20 yuan a kg (US$3.84 a kg).
